Roseke Engineering Ltd. designed this beautiful pratt-style truss bridge at the 18th hole of the Nanton Golf Club, which is used by golf cart traffic as well as the occasional maintenance and construction vehicle.
The previous bridge sustained damage during flooding. It was an old flatbed rail car with wheels removed, placed on concrete lock blocks.
The new bridge was built in the shop and placed on two screw piles per abutment. Screw piles are an excellent option for pedestrian bridges because they are cheap and can be designed for significant loads, including vehicle loads. They are installed within several hours. In this case, the screw piles deviated from their planned location due to the presence of builders below the surface, but intermediate connectors were designed and welded in place to allow a proper load transfer from the bridge to the screw piles.
