Project Name: | Bridge Replacement of Bridge File 1174 |
Location: | Olds, AB |
Description: | Replacement of a three span 35.3 m timber bridge with a 3 span, 3 x 12 m type SLW-510 on a steel substructure |
Roseke Engineering Ltd. helped Mountain View County enhance their bridge program by replacing this bridge which was nearing the end of its service life.
The project involved the removal of the existing bridge, driving steel H-piles, installing type SLW girders, paving the bridge and approach roads, and other miscellaneous site work. Roseke Engineering was the prime consultant and performed the design of the bridge as well as tender and construction supervision.
The bridge is an integral link in the County’s road network and effectively takes this bridge off the books for 75 years (at least). Although the official design life span of the type SL bridges is 75 years, they are likely to last longer due to the longevity of the steel piles and precast concrete girders.
The project went smoothly, under budget and ahead of schedule. We managed the pre-qualification of six Contractors as well as the tendering process, and the County was in good hands.
